Classic Touring Car Racing Club, CTCRC, meeting at  Lydden hill on 25 July 2009

Damaging Racing for many at Controversial Lydden

The CTCRC held the organising reigns in their own hands at this Saturday meeting. Unfortunately there were a host of damaging incidents at this tight little circuit, particularly in Classic & Historic and Pre 93, with the controversy still going on some weeks later. Neil drove in both PHTC and Group 1 and had a relatively trouble free run although he still ended up with some panel damage on both cars.

Post Historic

Tony Crudgington wins thrilling Post Historic Race

Steve Primett passed Jason Christie on the second lap Peter Holton returned after some years and enjoyed himself despite this incident.

Jason Christie out-dragged Steve Primett off the line, with Neil Bray making up two places, to follow the two RS2000's into the first corner in his Capri. Steve got past Jason on the second lap into a lead he maintained to the flag.

As Steve steadily gapped Jason the two pulled away from Neil in third who was under pressure from Mark Osborne in his Dolomite. Neil held him off till around half distance when Mark out-braked Neil into the hairpin.

Neil stayed in touch for a few laps until he ran wide at the bend before the hairpin, going onto the gravel, letting Tony Crudgington and Len Allgood past.

Tony pulled off soon afterwards, then Peter Holton spun his Rover P6 into the gravel. Shortly afterwards the race was red flagged with the order Primett Christie Osborne Allgood Bray

It wasn't the Peter Holton incident that bough out the red but a blockage at Paddock when Les Nash piled into the back of James Christie. James had made a clean pass on Les the lap before. According to several that saw the incident, Les tried to get back by and in his determination ran into the back of James Avenger rather than use his brakes. James lost control, spun, couldn't restart, bringing out the red.

Group 1 - Race 1

Jim McLoughlin Dominates, Neil's Fiesta runs well

Jim McLoughlin and Roger Stanford had a fantastic battle for the lead. David Howard was in the ex-Chris Bray XR3 sand windscreen.

Roger Stanford got a great start, holding off the close attention of Jim McLoughlin and Mark Fowler. They were followed by Al Weyman who was going well in his Camero and David Margalies in his very nice Texaco liveried Capri.

Then came. Adrian Fuller and a group containing Neil Bray in his 1300 Fiesta.

It took four laps before Jim took Roger for a lead he kept to the flag. Roger came close at times but the best he could do was get alongside while overtaking some of the backmarkers. As the race went on David Margalies and Adrian Fuller squeezed past Al's Camaro as he faded towards the end

Neil was in amongst the mid pack action for most of the race to finish eleventh.
