Ron Warren being
presented with a LeMans print by Alan Davis
Ron Warren retired as Falcon’s President at the recent
AGM, feeling that the time had come to stand aside for a younger man.
Now well into his 80’s Ron joined Falcon in 1950’s and
exactly 50years ago in 1956 became Club secretary. A keen trialler Ron drove
the Dellow Mk2 KTM191 in trials before moving to a 1500cc Anglia in the
60’s. In 1956 Ron became Secretary of the Meeting for Falcons Guy Fawkes
Trial.
Ron’s involvement in Motor Sport was spread much wider
than Falcon, being involved in the MCC for many years and is still a
Vice-President. Ron was also a founder of the LCAMC and was its first
secretary.
Over the years Ron has officiated as a Steward at all
levels in the sport and his name can be found in The Blue Book as an
honorary official.
Ron became President of Falcon in 1993 and has handed over
the Presidential reigns to Alan Davis. Ron remains involved with Falcon as a
Vice-President and plans to continue acting as a Falcon Steward.
Personally, I have two memories of Ron, both involving his
Land Rover. One was of him towing Don MacIvers Mini out of the ditch we had
fallen into when we went off the road on a Falcon Rally. The other was him
towing his successors Escort all the way back to Hertforshire when Alan
broke his Escorts diff on Nailsworth Ladder during a Guy Fawkes. No fuss, no
comments, he just got on with the job of helping out.
Always a great lover of Le Mans, Ron was presented with a
print of the race by Alan Davis on behalf of the club.
