Christmas Quiz Q3 - A bit more up-to-date
this time. This picture was taken on my first MCC trial (I was a
passenger). The main question is what is the section?

Christmas Quiz Q1
- The answer is that the Allard Driver on Swansong Hill on the
1946 Liverpool MC Jeans Cup Trial was
The Lady Mary Grosvenor. Winners
are Nigel Brown and David Alderson.

The Classical Gas recommendation is
to go to Wooston Steep, especially if you want
to take pictures. It's competitive for the higher classes and there
won't be so many people as at Simms. Fingle is
a wonderful setting but isn't so much of a challenge.

Emma Robilliard won a very wet Camel
Classic Trial in her Class 4 Beetle on the 9th December. It poured with
rain all day and one of the three new sections in the woods had to be
cancelled. It seemed the conditions may have made the feared Clinnick
easier though. Perhaps the rain washed some of
the mud down the hill as seven Escorts cleaned the section and some even
came out of the top, something that has never been achieved before. The
Camel continued with its index system to decide the awards for the event,
with ACTC awards being decided without this applied. A new
innovation was applied this year. Some of the markers
were moved down some of the Camels very steep hills after classes
6,7 and 8 had passed to give the lower classes a chance.
Click Here for the full results on the ACTC site.
The Camel was the last ACTC round of the
year. Well done to
Wheelspin champion Adrian Dommett and Bill Bennett who won the
Crackington. A clean sweep for Class Two!
Preparations are underway for Falcon's
March Hare Classic Trial on 9th March. Here Mike Pearson and John
Parsons are at work clearing a very large fallen tree
from one of the sections.More Pictures and a

The first one day
Classic of the new year is the Clee
Hills on Sunday 20 January in wonderful
Shropshire. The Classical Gas Editorial team have not missed this one
since it restarted some twelve or more years ago. For the last three
years we have really enjoyed ourselves marshalling but will be back to
driving this time. However, its a great event
to marshal on and Adrian Tucker-Peake would love to have you help out.
If you can help drop Adrian an email on adrian.tpeake@tiscali.co.uk

our Christmas Quiz for anyone who can name the driver and post it on the
Classical Gas Message Board. Here is another picture that may help. Same
place, same time, you can see the photographer in the other picture.

awarded on special test times.

rather engaged as Clerk of the Course

Will make some notes over
on the blog and a link to the results and Mike

foot and mouth the Mechanics Trial will not be

3 October 2007 -
Oulton Park Race Report - Neil was fourth overall again in Post
Historic, giving No1 Capri its first outing since Brands Hatch and
establishing a new class lap record. Roger Stanford won, making three
podium visits during the day. Group 1 saw a hard race for the Class B
championship between David Thomas and Jim McLoughlin. David coming out
on top after both spun and re-jointed in separate incidents.

Dudley Sterry had the lowest score and
was best MG at the MGCC's Autumn Trial at Burton Dassett on 23rd
September. Mike Hobbs was best non-MG in his Beetle.

20 September 2007 -
Thruxton Report - Neil had another good
Post Historic race, finishing fourth overall in his
no2 Capri. The race was won by Steve Primett who had a
super race, passing and keeping Dave Thomas at bay. Group 1 saw an epic
battle between Jim McLoughlin, David Hickton and Steve Cripps but this
was overshadowed by Mark Fowlers superb drive after starting from the
pit lane.
20 Sep 2007
The MCC have cancelled The Edinburgh
Trial because of the uncertain situation concerning the Foot and Mouth
outbreak. With such a big event the committee couldn't leave the
decision until the last moment so while we will all
be disappointed I am sure they have made the right decision.

Crusader (pictured left).

4 September 2007 -
Donnington Report - Neil had an excellent Post Historic race,
keeping on the island in the very slippery conditions at the end of the
day. Roger Stanford won, passing Steve Primett on the very last corner.
The boss was back in Group 1, Pete Halford winning in fine style.
18 August 2007 - Added a few bits and
pieces to my Snetterton report, including some
links so you can read Stacy's critical views on my reporting and to his
site so you can read his take on things generally.
The nature of Classical Gas is that everyone doesn't like what's written
here. This latest thing isn't the first and it won't be the last, so I
thought it was time to add a general disclaimer which is on the sidebar
to the left so it should appear on every page.
John Arrowsmith - A stalwart of the MGCC Midland
Centre, John died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday 12 th August
after a heart attack and complications. His funeral will be on Wednesday 22nd at 12.30
hrs. at Redditch Crematorium located off the traffic island at map ref.

15 August 2007 -
Snetterton Report. Neil was away in Spain but the Classical Gas team
were still at Snetterton to watch Roger Stanford have a storming drive
to win an exciting race Post Historic race. David Thomas had a race long
battle to stay ahead of Steve Primett and Mark Lucock's Escorts. He
succeeded and also won his class to maintain his perfect record and lead
the championship. Earlier in the day Roger was the star of Group 1.
Starting from the pit lane and carving his way up to seventh place in
his sick BMW.
10 August 2007 - Some updates to The
Rough Guide. However, please note I am no longer updating this page. The
Rough Guide information is on The Google Calendar further down here on
the Homepage. I will maintain the Micro Sites for
some Trials events. Regs are published for the
Exe Valley Trial for The Angus Stewart Trophy on 16th September
31 July 2007 -
Pembrey Report - Neil didn't have such a good meeting as Croft,
spinning after some contact in Post Historic and off the pace in Group
1. The highlight of the meeting was Don Hughes win in his Golf. There
was an excellent Post Historic race, despite limited numbers with Roger
Stanford's presence in the class adding to the entertainment.
17 July 2007 - Croft Report - Neil won the Group 1 race in convincing style, starting towards the back
of the grid but making up places on the grid and gaining the lead on a
dampish track on the second lap. Pete Halford won both of the Double
Header Post Historic races, winning from Stephen Primett and David Thomas
in the dry first race and David Thomas and Roger Stanford in the damp
second.
12 July 2007 - From John Aley's NOTW we
learn that Sundays Testing Trial has had to be cancelled because the
ground is waterlogged.
11 July 2007 - Source of various VW bits
added to Technical Links.
7 July 2007 - Falcons explore
Bedfordshire on their annual Fish and Chip Run.
Click here to read the report and see what else the county has to
offer other than Luton Airport and Brussel Sprouts.
6 July 2007 - Its a bit late but I have
added Michael's June Musings where I explain
why there will be no more new editions of Classical Gas on PDF. I have a
lot of old ones that I have never published and I plan to do this when
there isn't much news!
Added a link to
GP Update
below
(thanks Nashy). A good source for keeping in touch with the men
in MotoGP or the puffs in F1.
Also done a bit more tidying of the
terribly messy Links page and consolidated and
updated the Computer Links, adding quite
a few links to Open Source software.
3 July 2007 - Nicola and Pamela won the
Ladies Prize on the Peking to Paris. They got a Silver Medal which I
think means they missed getting into one major control on time. Will
post more news and links
when I get more information.
29 June 2007 - Nicola pictured on a
Special Test in Estonia earlier this week. The event finishes in Paris
tomorrow. If you click the thumbnail it will enlarge.

some un-civilized country or another! Not much news recently from
her blog but you can

Love that aluminium trolley jack!
29 May 2007 -
Castle Combe Report - It was a very cold and miserable day
weather-wise, with all Neils track time either in the rain or on a wet
track. The Fiesta went really well in a race won by Peter Halford in his
orange Camero. Neil made a fantastic start finishing sixth overall and
winning his class. Things werent so hot with the Capri which wasnt
able to take the grid after technical problems.
14 May 2007 -
Mallory Report - The weather forecast was
accurate. It would start raining at around ten, during Group1 qualifying
and stop around five in the afternoon when it was time to go home! The
conditions were tailor-made for the Fiesta and Neil easily won his class
and finished fourth overall, despite a spin. The Capri was a bit more of
a handful but Neil bought it home safe and sound for a second in class
behind David Thomas.
We didn't win the local papers best
Sports Web Site. That went to St Albans City Football Club. However, we
did make the short list thanks to your votes and I really appreciated
that.
James McMurray won the draw for two
tickets with full hospitality package at the BTCC race at Donnington on
15th July.

Parkinson Disease Society thanking the club, competitors and marshals
for the cheque for Ł100 raised during the event.
12 March 2007 - I will be writing the

You may have seen that I have stopped
putting the little counter at the foot of new pages. This is because
Microsoft are discontinuing the service from 15th February. "Starting
February 15th, 2007 the counter on your Web site will stop counting new
visits and you will no longer be able to sign-in and view reporting
through your control center. In May, 2007 we will stop serving
FastCounter by bCentral Web images. In place of the counter, a broken
image will appear on your Web site unless you take steps to remove the
underlying HTML code."
